Brigham Young University Film "The Lion and the Mouse"

The short film The Lion and the Mouse is the second collaborative traditional animated film to be completed in the Brigham Young University Animation Program.
Although it was the first traditional animated film initiated in the Brigham Young University Animation Program the short film The Lion and the Mouse is the second collaborative traditional animated film to be completed. Due to the complexity of the project and the desire to make the film the best that it could be the production schedule grew considerably and the opportunity to participate on the film extended to students both inside and outside the program.
With the experience that faculty members had previously with Animo while working at DreamWorks Feature and Warner Brothers Feature Animation the software was a natural, and was chosen for it’s ability to handle large projects and streamline production. Additionally the functionality allowed for a wide range of effects to be created through the use of the node based compositing tool Director.
3D elements were created using Maya while backgrounds where painted in Painter and Photoshop.
The film is just now reaching completion and will soon play in the festival market.
Blake Johnson, now a senior in the animation program, is the director of the film.
